A former captain of the Nigerian Super Eagles Kanu Nwankwo, has urged the Super Eagles to
remain focused throughout the duration of proceedings against Argentina
in their final group D game of the 2018 World Cup on Tuesday.
In an exclusive interview on Newsbreak.ng, “Papilo”
as the former Arsenal forward is popularly known, said the Nigerian
team must be physically strong and ready to absorb whatever theatrics
and playing style the Argentines may throw in their way at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.
Acknowledging
the skillfullness of La Albiceleste players, Kanu noted that it would
be a tough game and the team must prepare properly in order to win the
game.
He said, “Argentina is a very strong team. Remember they
have (Lionel) Messi, they also have very good strikers. At any given
time, we have to pay attention to them, be focused till the end; not
just 70 minutes but till the end. And we have to be physically strong
against them. Everything they throw in, we have to absorb it.
“If its to win, we are going to win but it depends on how we prepare. If we are ready for it, we will get it.”
Kanu
also said implored coach Gernot Rohr and his team to maintain the same
playing style and formation it used to defeat Iceland on Friday if they
want to defeat Iceland.
“It’s just to do the same thing against
Iceland”, the Atlanta ’96 gold winning striker said. “The second half
was fantastic, it’s just to do the same thing and be focused.”
The Super Eagles will face Argentina in a 7 pm (Nigerian time) kickoff today
