Nigeria’s
President Muhammadu Buhari has begun conducting his affairs again from the
presidential office inside the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja.
This
information was revealed by a personal assistant to the president on new media,
Bashir Ahmad, who tweeted on Friday, November 10, 2017 that the president was
holding a holding a meeting of the Armed Forces Council Meeting in his official
office.
“President
@MBuhari is currently presiding over an Armed Forces Council Meeting in this
particular office you’re talking about,” Ahmad wrote.
Shortly
after Buhari returned to Nigeria after an unprecedented 103 days on medical
leave in August, 2017, the Nigerian presidency announced that he would be
working from home because of a “rodent infestation” of the office from a “lack
of use for many months”.
“Following
the three months period of disuse, rodents have caused a lot of damage to the
furniture and the air conditioning units,” Garba Shehu, a presidential
spokesperson, had said, explaining that it was impossible for the President to
operate from the office in that condition.
The
president also used an office inside the Presidential Banquet Hall while the
office was supposedly renovated.
This
episode raised a number of questions with regards to the president’s health and
his ability to function in his official capacity.
There were also rumours of the
president being teleguided by spiritual merchants called marabouts. The
president has reportedly consulted with marabouts from Senegal in the early
days of his presidency
