COVID-19: FG Extends Relaxed Lockdown For Another Two Weeks

          
The Federal Government has announced that it is extending the current partial lockdown imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country for another two weeks.
Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, disclosed this at the daily press briefing of the body on Monday.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on 4 May eased for two weeks the lockdown imposed on Lagos and Ogun states, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the review of the relaxed down, Mustapha, who doubles as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said the country is not yet ready for the full reopening of its economy.
He noted that a total reopening of activities will expose all persons living in the country to grave danger.
He said: “The reality is that in spite of the modest progress made, Nigeria is not yet ready for full opening of the economy and tough decisions have to be taken for the good of the greater majority. Any relaxation will only portend grave danger for our populace.​
“Advisedly, the current phase of eased restriction will be maintained for another two weeks during which stricter enforcement and persuasion measures will be pursued.”
