France-based Nigerian international utility singer, Asa, will top the list of other performers at this year’s MTN Bush Fire Festival slated for Swaziland in May.
The
artiste whose brand of music [a combination of jazz, pop and highlife],
according to the organizers, will mount the stage alongside other top
hitters from Africa.
The
organizers revealed that the festival will keep reflecting the African
ethos, with a strong focus on regional music, culture and arts.
‘’Asa
is known for her soulful voice, powerful and seen by some as one that
captivates with her dreadlocked hair, quirky glasses and guitar,” the
organizers gave reason for chosing her.
They
continued that ‘’Asa has earned a place as the de-facto patron saint of
the cerebral boho-chic Nigerian. Her style is unique – lying somewhere
between pop and soul – and just a twist of reggae.’’
Asa
features mainly English lyrics, but she also sings in Yoruba, spoken in
some West African countries but widely spoken in Nigeria.
‘’Her
songs say a lot about our melancholy, our dreams, our thoughts and our
reflections. It almost feels like they have been part of our lives she
wrote and sang them,’’ they concluded.
The
MTN Bush Fire Festival this year will bring artistes from Europe like
Puts Marie from Switzerland and Austria’s Aramboa whose electronic soul
music various beats.
The
festival was the winner of the African Responsible Tourism Awards Most
Sustainable Event of 2017 and was also hailed by the CNN in 2016 as ‘one
of the seven African music festivals you really have to see.’
It is listed by the BBC as a ‘top African Festival.’
