The much
talked about 30th anniversary celebration of Navy Town Secondary
School has come and gone.
The event
which took place on the 15th
of December at the Prestigious Navy Sailng Club Grounds within the Naval
Barracks in Navy Town drew a lot of dignitaries to the epoch celebration.
Past
students of the institution attended the event in different attires but kept to
the dress code of having a touch of blue and white as the official colour of
the day.
‘ The
Alumni President Ikenna Godwin Uyamasi in his welcome address expressed his joy
at seeing the success of many months of planning and hopes sets across boards
will find ways of keying into making the alumni vision, making it stronger than
ever before.’
He further
disclosed that in the coming months, projects aimed at giving back to the
school will be initiated and hopes that all hands will be on deck to make it a
success.
The
shindig which started with a three day special event on the 13th
,saw a novelty match being played by players drawn from the old students association and a cross
section of young lads from the senior class of the school.
The old
students won the march 4-3 via penalties after the match ended 3-3 apiece.
The 14th
of December saw a career talk cum lecture day being organised by the alumni and
students got a first hand feel of what each prospective future career looks
like and they gained a good knowledge of how to go about their future
profession.
The main
event attracted so many old teachers of the institution who were pioneer hands
in the school teaching department.
Awards
were given to them by the alumni in recognition of their selfless service to
humanity, top amongs the recipients was Mrs Benedette Oyedele, a blind teacher
who taught social studies with braille and had the most impact to students who
many say were awed by her dedication to duty as a teacher.
Others say
they were happy to see the woman who single handly composed the school
anthem, which is still being sang till date
in the school.
Navy Town Secondary situated within
the Naval Barrack in Satellite Town Lagos was founded in January,1988 by the military administration of
that era through the Lagos state ministry of education to cater for children
and wards of military soldiers living in the barracks.
The
