The assailants were said to have attacked the community on Thursday night.
Some reports say nine persons were killed. However, Channels Television said 14 persons, comprising a child, five men and eight women, were killed.
Terna Tyopev, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Plateau State Police Command, confirmed the incident, but was not specific on the number of deaths.
“Last night, some gunmen
invaded this area shooting indiscriminately and in the cause wiped out
nine members of a family,” the News Agency of Nigeria, quoted an
anonymous resident as saying.
“I cannot say what caused the ugly incident but I heard some gunshots and some persons were also injured”.
Reports
also said youths in the community took to the street to protest late
response of security agencies, after efforts to reach them during the
attack on the community had proved abortive .They mounted barricades, preventing motorists and passers-by from accessing the road, before troops of the Operation Safe Haven arrive to clear the barricade.
It was further reported that the tension spread to Gada Biu, Katako, Farin Gada and the Jos main market.
