The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday approved that Rivers
State should host the party’s national (presidential) convention ahead
of the 2019 general elections.
The National Executive Committee of
the PDP took the decision after its meeting at Wadata Plaza, the
national headquarters of the party, the Punch reports.
There has been a controversy during the week over the choice of venue
for the PDP national convention, where members of the party are
expected to elect the party’s standard bearer of the 2019 presidential
election.
Governor Nyesom Wike had warned that Rivers State would
teach the PDP and the presidential aspirants “a lesson” should the event
be moved away from the proposed choice of Port Harcourt, the state
capital.
Governor Wike claimed that the hosting of the convention
would benefit citizens of the state economically and would be disastrous
if the event was relocated away from the state.
