A popular Nollywood star Ignis Ekwe, known for his role in leading soap opera and movies is dead.
The
actor, who also played evergreen roles in “Cockcrow at Dawn’’, “Igodo” and
other epic movies, reportedly died in Benin, after a brief illness.
Susan Emike Ekwe, the actor’s daughter made the announcement via her Instagram page.
“The unbelievable just happened to me. Daddy you broke my heart,” she wrote after the post.
Yvonne Jegede-Fawole, his niece and Nollywood actress, also confirmed his demise.
“My
heart is bleeding, my heart is heavy. Who do I question? Who do I
blame? The inevitable has struck again. RIP Uncle Ignis Ekwe, Nollywood
veteran,” she wrote on her Instagram page.
“Your little girls will miss you so much. Nollywood loses a gem. We have lost a rare one.
“My eyes are clouded, I want to scream but I can’t find my voice. #IgnisEkwe.”
Before his passing, he was a lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state.
The deceased hailed from Fuga, Edo state, where he had his primary and secondary education.
He
graduated from the University of Benin from the department of Theatre
Arts in 1982. He had his postgraduate studies in the University of Jos.
He also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF).
Popular movie productions he featured in were ‘Igodo’, ‘The Price’, ‘Everyday People’ and ‘Cockcrow’.
