The President of Nigeria's Actors Guild Mr Emeka Rollas has appointed popular actor Gentle Jack as the new chairman
of the national task force of the body.
His
appointment was as a result of reports about poor welfare and various ill
treatments meted to actors during filming. Subsequently, careful selections of members
were made to serve as national task force officers with the mandate to enforce
some of the body’s rebranding welfare packages for members nationwide.
Rollas
charged the newly constituted members of the task force to ensure strict
compliance of the rules of the guild without fear or favour as actors are no
beggers. “They must be treated with dignity.”
In
another development, the national president has directed that the Vice
chairman, Delta State chapter of AGN to take charge of the state chapter until
NEC takes a final decision on a case against the former chairman, Mr. Alex Idu.
Instead of responding to the querry issued by the national body, he resigned.
Part
of the statement reads: “You will recall, having been briefed by the former
Chairman and the incumbent National
Secretary, that last month, we had sent in a Commission of Inquiry to
confirm the response of Alex Idu to the Query issued to him by the National
body and dated 21st day of May 2018, to which he responded inappropriately and
was given further opportunity to defend himself and submit the State account he
promised to send while answering the Query.
Unfortunately,
this was not to be as Alex Idu simply refused to see the Commission after he
was notified of their coming, neither did he drop the said account.
“Further
to this, was Alex Idu's sudden
resignation on the 21st of June, 2018 while the report of the Commission
is been considered by NEC, this of course we accepted in principle and asked
him to handover to his Vice Chairman for continuity sake and to avoid creating
a vacuum while he awaits our conclusion on the report of the Commission, to
which sadly Alex, the former Chairman has refused to comply with, as a matter
of fact: the Secretariat he claimed earlier he got in AGN Delta name is now
been paraded as his.
We
have however, directed that the Vice Chairman should continue to steer the ship
of the State until NEC takes a final decision on the matter.
Please,
note that, AGN is nobody's private estate and will be run hence as an
association of civilized people.
“For
the umpteenth time, no one asked Alex Idu to resign, and his purported
resignation will not stop the consideration of the report of the Commission of
Inquiry and his response to the 6-point allegations.
We
encourage you to remain law abiding and go about your lawful roles as artistes,
as we reiterate that the AGN is greater than any individual.”
Rollas
implore actors to stop patronising people who want to use their money for their
personal purposes as he again directed them on how to go about registration. They
are advised to go to google playstore, download, Actors Guild of Nigeria mobile
app, register as a new member for N33,500 or make payment as an old member for
N6,500. If making payment on the mobile app becomes difficult, please make a
transfer to Actors Guild of Nigeria Diamond Bank account 0030710723.
