Nigerian Hollywood actor Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in a new movie titled 'Come Sunday'
Come Sunday tells the true-life story of Carlton Pearson, a
pentecostal preacher in Tulsa, Oklahoma, whose late ’90s revelations (he
says directly from God) about the nature of heaven and hell end up
deemed heresy by his own church.
Pearson ends up embattled in his own
community, sometimes in his own family, but he sticks to his humanistic
guns. In telling Pearson’s story, Come Sunday ends up examining
one man’s personal crisis of faith and also, on the periphery, the
political and often PR-driven nature of modern religion. Word travels
fast in the Christian community, only rather than gossiping at church
picnics like might have been the case in a film set 50 years prior,
Pearson’s conversion and eventual expulsion happened with news cameras
and pundits and on CNN.
