Africa’s Leading Hollywood Actress clocks 35

Kenyan born actress Lupita Nyong'o has just turned 35.
As an actress, and certifiable fashion icon has transited from sequins to capes, the screen goddess  is jaw-dropping at every event she attends.
Lupita Nyong’o’s next project will be starring in an adaptation of Trevor Noah’s memoir, Born A Crime. Nyong’o has become one of Hollywood’s fastest rising stars since she graduated from short films and TV to starring in 12 Years A Slave in 2013. The role landed her a number of accolades, including an Oscar. From there, appearances in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Jungle Book only increased her profile. But while those roles saw her hidden behind CGI, it’s been her most recent part in Black Panther that’s exposed Nyong’o to her biggest audience.
Black Panther is shattering box office records, with each day bringing new milestones for the film. Ryan Coogler’s work directing and co-writing the script has been a particular focus of the film, but the Internet has been flooded with think pieces heaping praise on the cast of the film. In particular, Nyong’o’s portrayal of spy and humanitarian Nakia has been highlighted as one of the film’s best, providing a global Wakandan ideology on the opposite end of the spectrum from Erik Killmonger’s beliefs. Now, Nyong’o will trade the fictional African country for one much closer to reality.
Lupita Nyong’o has just signed onto Born A Crime, an adaptation of Trevor Noah’s memoir of the same name. The book, and a subsequent stand-up special, details The Daily Show host’s life growing up amidst apartheid in South Africa. Nyong’o will play Noah’s mother Patricia, and will co-produce the film with Noah.
