Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo has congratulated northern Nigeria’s first lawyer Abdul
Ganiyu Folorunsho Abdulrazaq on the anniversary of his 90th birthday which held
yesterday.
Osinbajo,
who rejoiced with the celebrant on achieving the milestone, said the event was
an appropriate occasion to recognize Abdulrazaq’s various contributions to the
legal profession and Nigeria.
In
his congratulatory message, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad
Abubakar, saluted the nonagenarian for his sterling record in public service
and his contribution to education by establishing the first privately owned
college in 1968 in Kwara.
“Your
immense contribution to Nigeria’s Independence and every constitution review in
Nigeria from 1957 to date is unique and highly commendable. You have served
every community you lived in selflessly and diligently,” the sultan said.
Eldest
child of the celebrant, Dr. Alimi Abdulrazaq, in an interview with Daily Trust,
said he and his siblings were grateful for their father’s life and for the
privilege to have him. He said it was a celebration they had all looked forward
to and were grateful to God the day had come.
Alhaji
Abdulrazaq was Nigeria’s ambassador to Ivory Coast, Kwara’s first Finance
commissioner and also president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
